Every 18 July, South Africans dedicate 67 minutes to honour Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public service. It’s a small number on paper. This Mandela Day showed the Prima Secure team just how much impact 67 minutes can have.
This year, our Johannesburg team spent Mandela Day at Mother of Peace Shelter in Northriding, supporting a home that provides vulnerable children with safety, care, and love. We didn’t arrive with a checklist or a photo op in mind. We left with laughter, meaningful conversations, and the reminder that time and compassion matter most.
More Than a Donation
If there’s one thing our team took away, it’s that time and presence matter most. We left with memories of laughter, meaningful conversations, and the warmth of a community built on love and compassion.
Madiba’s own words remind us why this matters: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” That’s not a marketing line. It’s a standard” one that’s easy to say and much harder to live up to. Spending a day at The Mother of Peace Shelter was our small attempt to live up to it.
Making Mandela Day Community Outreach an Ongoing Commitment
This visit wasn’t a once-off box to tick for Mandela Day. It’s the start of an ongoing community outreach programme for our team a commitment to keep showing up, not just once a year, but as a regular part of who we are as a company and as people. Small acts of kindness create meaningful impact, no matter the day on the calendar. Sometimes it’s an afternoon of your time. Sometimes, the greatest act of kindness is a box of groceries offered with love and care. Sometimes it’s just sitting with a child and letting them know someone came because they wanted to, not because they had to.
