SSL Certificates Basics
An SSL (Secure Socket Layer) certificate encrypts the data transferred between a user’s browser and your website, ensuring that sensitive information like passwords and credit card details remains secure. It also helps establish trust by displaying a padlock icon in the address bar and enabling HTTPS, which signals to visitors that your website is secure.
To obtain an SSL certificate, you can purchase one directly from Prima Secure, a trusted certificate authority. We offer a variety of SSL certificate brands, including DigiCert, GeoTrust, Thawte, and RapidSSL. After purchasing, you’ll install the certificate on your web server, which will encrypt your site’s traffic. If needed, most web hosting providers can assist you with the installation process.
SSL certificates typically need to be renewed annually. However, the exact renewal period depends on the type of certificate you have. It’s important to track the expiration date of your SSL certificate to maintain secure communication on your website.
Payments
We accept a variety of payment methods, including credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), PayPal, and bank transfers. Please check our website for any additional methods available in your region.
SSL Certificate
There are three main types of SSL certificates:
-
Domain Validated (DV): The most basic level of validation, which verifies the domain ownership.
-
Organization Validated (OV): Provides a higher level of validation by verifying both domain ownership and the legitimacy of the organization.
-
Extended Validation (EV): The highest level of validation, where the certificate issuer thoroughly checks your business. EV certificates trigger the green address bar in browsers, showing your company’s name.
You can check if your SSL certificate is installed properly by looking for the padlock icon in the browser’s address bar or by using online tools like SSL Labs’ SSL Test. These tools will confirm that the certificate is valid and correctly configured.
If your SSL certificate expires, your website will no longer be secure, and browsers will display a warning message to users. This could lead to a loss of trust from visitors, which may affect your site’s traffic and credibility. It’s important to renew your certificate before it expires to maintain secure communication.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and TLS (Transport Layer Security) are both cryptographic protocols designed to secure internet communications. TLS is the more secure and modern version of SSL. SSL is the older protocol, but it is still commonly referred to in the context of SSL certificates, even though most certificates now use the TLS protocol for encryption.
